An Old Goat Farm finds new life

Our Small Family Farm

Toward the end of the Nineteenth Century, William and Albertina Rohrs laid out the beginnings of a small family homestead in what is now Graham, Washington. In 1903, their son Fred Rohrs purchased 120 acres from his parents and, three years later, built with his wife Lucy the Victorian-style kit home that would become Old Goat Farm and still later take on new life as A. Bird Farm.

They employed their extensive experiences and dedication in creating lovely gardens with a hint of the sacred. More than ninety birds, including peacocks, chickens, and guinea hens called it home, as did many goats and at least one donkey. Changes in the surrounding neighborhoods brought development. Old Goat Farm became an oasis, special to those who

visited and attended events such as garden club tours, specialty plant nursery sales, or farm-to-table dinners and Christmas teas.

Today, enormous trees and mature plantings throughout keep civilization at bay. The old barn and multiple outbuildings, weathered with stalwart character, still stand. With Greg’s 2024 closing of Old Goat Farm and sale of the property, this most special place is transforming once again. We fell in love with its essential purpose and character. Now, our hearts are full of gratitude—and some trepidation as we take up its legacy. Many of the animals are staying. New rescued feathered and furred friends will join them. We hope Greg will return often. And we hope to meet you.
